Safaricom appoints john ngumi as chairman. Ngumi succeeded Michael Joseph as of August 1, 2022.

Safaricom also announced the resignation of the secretary, Mdlalose Sitholizwe.

“The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Ngumi as a Director in Safaricom PLC with effect from 1st August 2022. The appointment is subject to regulatory approval. Mr Ngumi has also been appointed as the Chairman of the Board with effect from 1st August 2022,” the statement read alongside.

Mr. Ngumi is one of the most famous bankers in Kenya. In a banking career of 35 years, he has established himself as a leading business and investment banker in East Africa, working with local and international / global companies with a regional presence in East Africa, housing government-owned enterprises, authorities and financial institutions.

He is an experienced administrator who draws his experience from private and public companies.

He is the first chairman of the Board of Konza Technopolis Development Authority and an active member and chairman of the Board of Kenya Pipeline Company Limited.

He is currently the chairman of the Board of Industrial & Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC). He also sits on the board of Kenya Airways PLC.
