These loans can be for direct entry students (DES) or salaried students.
Direct Entry Student Loans (DES)
These loans are for students joining public or private universities within the East African Community directly from secondary school, through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) or as self-sponsored. The amounts assigned range from a minimum of 35,000 to a maximum of 60,000 depending on the level of need. The loan attracts interest of 4% per annum and students must repay their loans at the end of their studies.
Loans for salaried students
These loans are aimed at salaried graduates (master’s and doctoral students) and university students who can repay their loans while studying. The loans are assessed and granted based on the student’s ability to pay during their studies at an interest rate of 12% per annum and repayable in 48 months.
