On Friday, July 24, the company announced that the move would help 7.1 million residential customers deal with the pressure of reduced incomes due to the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

said Bernard Ngugi, managing director and CEO of Kenya Power.

The service is available to both prepaid and postpaid customers and there is no minimum or maximum number of bonga points with which to pay bills.

With this system, customers can now redeem their Bonga Points to purchase tokens or pay bills at a rate of 20 cents per Bonga Point. In case you want to purchase tokens worth Ksh500, you will need to have 2,500 bonga points.

How to Buy Kenya Power Tokens using Bonga Points

1) Dial *126# and select \’Lipa na Bonga\’

2) Select Pay Bill

3) Enter the company number 888888 for subscription and 888880 for prepaid

4) Enter the account/meter number

5) Enter the amount you wish to pay

6) Confirm your payment details and enter your service PIN to complete the payment.

You will receive your tokens immediately after purchasing with your Bonga Points.

To check how many points will be needed to pay the bill, the customer will need to dial *126#, select “Lipa Na Bonga” and then select “Calculate Bonga”. The customer will be asked to enter the amount they wish to pay and will receive a response with the number of points they will need to pay for the invoice.

It is important to note that there are no additional costs for using Bonga Points. Only the value of the Bonga Points on the bill you are paying will be deducted from your Bonga balance when redeemed.
