Here is a simplified guide on how to do a vehicle online search in Kenya.

The process is done online through the NTSA TIMSVIRL portal, an online platform that allows you to easily access the services provided by the NTSA.

Through the portal you can also access other NTSA services such as;

  • License Application and Renewal.
  • Vehicle registration.
  • Vehicle inspection application.
  • Transfer of vehicle ownership/registration.
  • Required training and instruction programs for drivers.
  • Reflection license application.
  • Copy directory application.
    In most cases, a car search is done when someone wants to buy a used car and wants to know more details about the car or its history.

The online survey costs Kshs 550 and provides important details such as;

  • Vehicle make or brand.
  • Registered chassis number. Registered engine number.
  • Year of production.
  • Owner contact details (owner name and address).
  • The color of the car.

  1. Visit the NTSA TIMSVIRL website https://timsvirl.ntsa.go.ke
  2. Sign in or create an account if you don’t have one.
  3. Click Search Online and proceed to copy the vehicle registration
  4. You will be redirected to the search settings where you will enter the vehicle details; Registration Number or / Chassis / Frame Number.
  5. After entering the vehicle registration number without spaces, scroll down and click Enter.
  6. If available, a copy of the vehicle registration will appear in the “Vehicle Registration” section.
  7. Click Next to pay for the search.
  8. You will need to pay Kshs 550, which is the fee charged for the vehicle request.

9. Select your preferred payment method. If the payment was made by Mpesa Paybill, follow the steps below.

  • Go to Mpesa and select payment options.
  • Enter transaction number 206206.
  • Enter the account number provided after selecting the payment option
  • Enter the required amount (Kshs 550). Enter your Mpesa PIN and send.
    10. Once the payment is made, follow the instructions provided on the website to upload the required vehicle registration information.
