How To Use Safaricom Niokolee Service

This article is about how to use the Safaricom Niokolee service. Niokolee is a Safaricom service that allows you to request kredo (airtime) from your friends and family. All Safaricom prepaid subscribers, except roaming prepaid subscribers, can use the service. You can claim up to Kshs 100. The options will be available in the menu from Kshs 10, 20, 30, 50 and 100.

You can be an applicant and sponsor for another issue. However, you cannot share a kredo that has been shared by another sponsor.

How To Use Safaricom Niokolee Service

The Niokolee sharing service is only available to Safaricom network customers.

Niokolee airtime cannot be used to make instant calls to another number on another network.

You can only initiate a maximum of 2 Niokolee requests per day.

Any subsequent request will be automatically rejected by the system. Likewise, you can make a maximum of 10 Niokolee requests in a month.

Niokolee resources can be used both on and off the network, for both calls and SMS. Resources are valid for 24 hours.

Any unused Niokolee kredo will not be transferred after the validity period expires.

How to make a Niokolee request


  • Dial *444# from your Safaricom line.
  • Select Niokolee and then select Request Kredo.
  • Enter Safaricom number to request talk time from (the benefactor).
  • Select the default amount of talk time to request and then send it.


How to accept a Niokolee request


You will receive a notification from 444 444 asking you to accept or decline Niokolee’s request.

Once the request is accepted, the selected equivalent amount is transferred from your account to the requester.

A notification message will be sent to both of you.

How to check your Niokolee balance


Check USSD *444# or text to 144.

You will receive a message showing the balance of all resources and remaining minutes.
