Following the launch of the Hustler Fund by President William Ruto on Wednesday afternoon, November 30, 2023, Kenyans can apply for the fund also known as the Financial Inclusion Fund through comfort, convenience and the privacy of their phones. The government of Kenya has made sure the process of how to apply for hustler fund in Kenya is easy, simple and straight forward.

Hustler borrowers will use the USSD code *254# to access the loan.

This was announced by the Kenyan Telecom Authority; Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom.

On the other hand, you can also use the mobile app of one of the advertisers you have signed up to get the money.

This will be effective from December 1, 2022 at midnight.

Subscribers to any of the three telecom operators need only call this code to start the application process for the Hustler Fund, the main campaign pledge of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives Simon Chelugui has said that there will be no need for registration or documents to apply for the Hustler Fund.

“We encourage members of the public to ignore all forms of communication that invite them to register for money on the website or through a phone number,” he said.

Hustler Fund and Savings

Fund Hustler will have strong links with the government’s program to increase social security funds under the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), the body responsible for collecting and managing pensions paid through public sector schemes.
Once you qualify for a loan, 5% of the amount will be withdrawn immediately and deposited into your savings account. For example, if you borrow and get approved for a loan of Ksh 1,000, you will get Ksh 950, while Ksh 50 will be kept in savings.
Of the retained earnings, 70% will be saved for retirement (Ksh35) in our example – while 30% (Ksh15) will be held in the temporary Hustlers Fund account.
For borrowers who do not work normally, any contribution made to the fund will be matched by the government – in a ratio of 2:1.
This means that if you contribute 50 Ksh to the fund, the government will add 25 Ksh to your income and the pension fund of the NSSF will be 75 Ksh.
