This article is about all the courses offered at the KMTC Chuka campus.

The Kenya Medical College KMTC Chuka Campus was established in partnership with the community, Chuka University, Tharaka Nithi County Government and KMTC Board of Trustees.

The school was opened in 2015 and is now located within Chuka University in Tharaka Nithi County.

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Chuka Campus offers a total of 3 courses; 2 study diplomas and 1 textbook.

Here is a list of programs currently available on campus:

Certificate in Orthopedic Technology


Requirements: Average grade of C-, C- in English or Kiswahili and C- in Biology/Biological Sciences D+ in one of the following disciplines: Physics/Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Carpentry, Metallurgy, Drafting , Home Science, Agriculture , Computer studies

Duration: 2 years

Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery


Requirements: Grade C average, C in English or Kiswahili, and C in Biology/Biological Sciences, C- in Chemistry/Physical Science C- in one of the following areas: Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science.

Duration: 3 years

Diploma in Registered Community Nursing in Kenya (KRCHN)


Requirements: Grade C, C average in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences.

C- in one of the following fields: Chemistry/Physics/Physical Science or Mathematics

Duration: 3 years

In addition to the above programs, KMTC Chuka Campus will offer the following courses:

  • A short course on HIV testing services, counseling, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Upgrade from certificate to diploma in Orthopedic Trauma Medicine.
  • Promotion of community nurses registered with KRCN.

Clinical Experience Sites

Students at KMTC Chuka Campus get clinical experience at various hospitals, with the main clinical experience center being the Chuka County Referral Hospital.

Other hospitals are Kiirua Mission Hospital, Embu County Referral Hospital and Kyeni Mission Hospital.

The school has organized various clubs and societies for the benefit of students.

In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in a number of sporting events including rugby, football, netball and basketball.
