Below are the steps to request new number plates:

1. Manual application

  • Obtain an NTSA application form
  • Fill out the form indicating the vehicle data and the type of license plates requested.
  • Send the completed form to the NTSA offices.
  • Make a payment of Ksh 3,000 (motor vehicles) or Ksh 1,500 (motorcycles)


You will receive an SMS notification on when and where to collect them.

2. Apply online via TIMS

  • Access the NTSA website https://timsvirl.ntsa.go.ke
  • Once registered, click vehicle registration.
  • Select Reflective Plate No. and then click Request Reflective Plate
  • Select your vehicle from the list you have and click “NEXT
  • Select the reason for the request.
  • Choose the reason for your request as “NEW GENERATION PLATE“.
  • Choose the notification method; email or SMS
  • Choose the license plate and format you prefer, i.e. oblong or square.
  • Select the collection center and the ID of the person who will collect the license plates
  • Upload the PDF form of your registration document and original license plates, both rear and front.
  • Confirm the vehicle details and then pay Ksh 3,050 via M-Pesa
  • Once payment is made, you will receive a collection notification within 7 days.
