Established in 1995, Metropolitan Hospital is arguably one of the most popular hospitals in the Eastlands area of ​​Nairobi.

The hospital recently opened a maternity ward to ensure that mothers and babies receive the best medical care.

Metropolitan Hospital prenatal package

Cost: Kshs 25,000

Prenatal care is important to protect the health of women and their unborn children.

Metropolitan Hospital encourages mothers to schedule their first visit between 8 and 12 weeks of pregnancy to thoroughly discuss any health concerns and develop a health care plan for their pregnancy. 

This package includes:

  • 8 scheduled, comprehensive antenatal clinics
  • Prenatal classes by a midwife
  • Laboratory tests; notably total blood count, VDRL, Blood Grouping, Urinalysis, Hepatitis B, Surface Antigen, Random Blood Sugar, Blood slide for malaria
  • HIV counselling and testing for the pregnant mother
  • 2 obstetric ultrasound scans
  • Iron, folic acid and calcium supplements

Metropolitan Hospital Maternity Charges

A midwife can help or a doctor can help.

a) Birth attended by a midwife

Cost: KSh40,000

That means:

  • General ward bed stay for 2 days
  • General nursery care for 2 days
  • Medicine and dressings are inclusive except prostaglandins ( for induction and labour)
  • Delivery conducted by experienced midwives
  • A comprehensive review of the baby by the hospital’s doctor
  • KEPI vaccine regime ( Birth polio and BCG)
  • Free prevention of mother and child ( PMTCT) and counselling
  • Compassionate and expert nursing care

b) Doctor-Assisted Delivery

This means:

  • General ward bed stay for 2 days
  • General nursery care for 2 days
  • Medicine and dressings are inclusive except prostaglandins ( for induction and labour)
  • Delivery conducted by experienced gynaecologists
  • A comprehensive review of the baby by the hospital’s doctor
  • KEPI vaccine regime ( Birth polio and BCG)
  • Free prevention of mother and child ( PMTCT) and counselling
  • Compassionate and expert nursing care

c) Caesarian Section 

  • General ward bed stay for 3- 4 days
  • General nursery care for 3 days
  • A comprehensive review of the baby by the hospital’s doctor
  • KEPI vaccine regime ( Birth polio and BCG)
  • Free prevention of mother and child ( PMTCT) and counselling
  • Compassionate and expert nursing care
  • pre-operative routine laboratory tests
  • Maternity operating services and medication
  • Hospital obstetrician, paediatrician, and anaesthetist’s fees
  • 3 ward visits by an obstetrician and the first routine ward visit by a paediatrician.

Hospitals accept NHIF for civil servants and schemes managed in the same L-T service.

They don’t accept NHIF Linda Mama.
