How to Opt Out of Fuliza MPESA today

This article is about how to Opt Out of Fuliza MPESA today. Fuliza is often the name that comes to mind when you have cash flow problems. But let’s face it, daily expenses might make you want to move and today I’m going to share simple guides on how to unsubscribe from Fuliza MPESA.

There are generally two ways to unsubscribe from Fuliza.

  • One is to dial *234# and then go to “Fuliza MPESA”, then “More” and finally “Opt Out”.
  • The other is through the MPESA app, where you can get the “Opt-Out” option in the transaction.

Keep in mind that giving up Fuliza has some consequences, some good and some not so good. The good news is that you won’t have to borrow again with Fuliza unless you sign up. And if you decide to sign up again, you may get a higher limit.

The key word is “may” because there is no certainty. You might lose your limit, or it might go down, and sometimes it might not change, and that’s some of the bad news.

The other bad news is that you won’t be able to use Fuliza once it’s deactivated, and your credit history may change since you’re no longer registered. And if you think you can walk away from an unpaid Fuliza loan, you should think again, because that won’t happen.

Why unsubcribe from Fuliza mpesa?

There are many different reasons why you might want to disable Fuliza, but two stand out and they are:

1. Get a higher limit

This is probably the most typical reason why most Fuliza users give up on Fuliza. By opting out and then opting in, you may increase your Fuliza loan limit. While I don’t recommend borrowing in general because it puts you in debt, I have heard of people hacking Fuliza this way.

However, not everyone is so lucky. Some lose their credit limit or have it reduced; for the others nothing changes.

One caveat: the higher the Fuliza limit, the more likely you are to borrow, and the more you borrow, the higher the debt. So, in the end, you will pay more in daily taxes, excise taxes, and even transaction costs. That’s why I recommend giving up forever for the second reason below.

2. Stop borrowing

Not everyone who unsubscribes from Fuliza MPESA does so in order to unsubscribe again and benefit from a higher limit. Some don’t even know the trick, but they do it because they are too tired of borrowing and have to pay high fees, which accumulate every day.

Does this sound familiar? Then you can say goodbye to Fuliza by choosing not to participate. Of course, this should happen after you pay off your debt.

How to unsubscribe from Fuliza MPESA

Basically, you can opt out of Fuliza MPESA in two ways, as follows:

1. Via USSD *234#

Consider these steps if you want to unsubscribe from Fuliza via USSD:

  • Dial *234#
  • Reply with option 0 (for Fuliza MPESA)
  • Select option 98 (for more information) and then option 7 (to opt out)
  • Tap “Send” to initiate deactivation and wait for an SMS.
  • Your text message will begin with the words “It’s sad to see you go” after your name. This shows that you chose not to participate.

However, the SMS informs you that you can participate in Fuliza again whenever you want.

2. Through the MPESA app

You can also disable Fuliza MPESA via the MPESA app, which you can download on Google Play or the App Store.

Here’s how to unsubscribe:

  • Launch the MPESA app on your device
  • Visit the transactions section and choose Fuliza at the bottom.
  • Wait for a Fuliza panel to open and tap the three dots in the top right
  • Then select “Deactivate Fuliza” to cancel the service.
  • Wait for an SMS confirming your waiver

What happens if I decide not to participate in Fuliza?

Unsubscribing from Fuliza can be good or bad, depending on your goal. Let’s look at the positives and negatives of giving up.

advantages of giving up Fuliza mpesa

By canceling your Fuliza membership, you benefit from these benefits:

No more debt with Fuliza:

You will no longer be able to borrow money with Fuliza unless you sign up again
The truth is that Fuliza is like any other emergency loan available. Of course you have to pay it back with interest.

When you know you can Fuliza, you become a little impulsive with your spending and will probably buy things you don’t need. But once you know you no longer have access to the service, you become overly conscious of your spending and will most likely choose what to buy.

The opportunity to sign up again and possibly benefit from a higher limit

This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. Let’s talk about the advantages for now.

Once you opt out and then opt in, your Fuliza loan limit may change, sometimes upward.

When you do this, you access a higher limit, which means you can do more with the money you borrow. Soon I will explain how to resubscribe.

disadvantages of giving up Fuliza

Now, these are the disadvantages of giving up Fuliza:

You can’t Fuliza when you are in a financial situation

Once deactivated, you will not be able to use Fuliza to complete your MPESA transaction, at least not until you opt-in. Who knows, you may not enjoy the same limit as above as it may be lower. Your limit may decrease if you decide to sign up

There is always a chance that Safaricom will reduce your loan limit

There is always a chance that Safaricom will reduce your loan limit if you decide to re-enroll after canceling your membership. Therefore, if your intention to opt out is to enjoy a higher limit when signing up, things could backfire on you. You might lose the high limit you like and don’t want.

Your credit score can change

It’s not just your loan limit that can change when you forgo, but also your credit score. But how? This is because Fuliza does not take into account your daily MPESA transactions once deactivated. As a result, you may not be able to improve your credit score for some time. However, you can improve your credit score by using other Safaricom related services such as MSHWARI, KCB MPESA, OKOA JAHAZI, Lipa Na MPESA and many more.
